Questions people ask
What is a triangle scarf?
A scarf cut, knitted or crocheted as a triangle, or a square folded corner to corner. You wear it with the long edge at the neck or hairline and the point hanging down, or with the point at the back and the ends tied at the front. Bandanas and kerchiefs are small triangle scarves.
How do you wear a triangle scarf?
The four common ways are a bib with the point at the front and a knot at the back, a front knot with the point at the back, a rolled neckerchief knotted at the side, and over the hair tied at the nape or under the chin. Our tying guide has diagrams for nine.
Are triangle scarves in style for fall 2026?
Fashion coverage says so. The Zoe Report ran “Everyone Is Wearing A Triangle Scarf” in December 2025, citing Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner and Dakota Johnson, and wool and knit triangles are the cold weather version people reach for.
What size triangle scarf should I get?
For the neck, a knit triangle around 40 to 60 inches across the long edge ties easily. Bandanas are often 20 to 22 inches square before folding. A shawl to wrap the shoulders is larger. See the size guide.
Is a triangle scarf warm?
It depends on the fiber. Wool, cashmere and chunky knits are warm and sit close to the neck; silk and thin cotton are light and mostly decorative, better for spring, summer and the hair.
Can I knit or crochet my own?
Yes, and it is one of the easiest shapes to start with. A free pattern such as the Easiest Triangle on Ravelry begins with three stitches at the point. See our knitting and crochet pattern guides.
